Obama's use of internet marketing to win the presidency

Although I am not a fan of President Obama, his ability to use internet marketing, including internet marketing methods, helped him win this election. The world goes to the internet to learn what it needs to, in today’s culture. More so, the internet provides an easy, affordable way to reach millions of people every single day. No other medium offers this. Obama had his own website...and besides giving information about his campaign the very purpose of this site was to get people to subscribe to his email newsletter, which was a great way to interact with millions of other people who were in agreement with obama's different policies. He even had a profile made on Twitter and Facebook! The fastest and easiest way for today's youth to be informed on politics (or any subject) is through these social networks, since they are the 2 most popular. This was such a success for Obama in gaining a large number of younger followers in his campaign...a major force in helping him win the presidential election... Oh oh and one last thing...he has a BLOG TOO. Here it is: http://www.barackobama-2012.blogspot.com/ check it out, it's pretty cool

  2. Obama is a true internet President. Heck, I bought a lot of official Obama merch to help the cause. I am a bleeding heart liberal and I wanted to do my part to get the liberals back into the White House. However, I think his success has a lot to do with his sheer charisma. The man radiates "hip" for a lot of young folks. I have kids walking around wearing Obama shirts, even late as last week. I have seen Obama t-shirts at the Five Below store, and I have seen kids walking around with Obama buttons. However, if you ask them what he stands for, a lot of them couldn't tell you. Even some of my AP kids couldn't relay his policy stance. It's pitiful.

I do think the internet had a prominent role in his success, but I think his charisma carried him through. People haven't been this hyped about a President since JFK.

  3. I think Obama is very principled; even though he could have approached his presidential candidacy during the election much differently, he didn't choose to "cash in," though I feel like people would buy anything that had his name on it.

It's interesting, too, how the social capital created by his campaign has affected his personal life. Many people look to First Lady Obama now as a fashion icon and role model, and if you guys remember, the media were all about commenting on Obama at the beach without his shirt off!

Are he and Michelle the next John and Jackie Kennedy? We'll see...
